JACKALOPE: The Summer Urban Action Sports Festival in Montreal

Montreal, Monday, July 15, 2013 –  The public is invited to experience JACKALOPE, presented by AMNESIA, on the Esplanade Financière Sun Life at the Olympic Park on July 19 and 20: a festive and free program offering athletic feats and urban culture. JACKALOPE presents a second mind-blowing edition featuring skateboard, freestyle motocross, fixed gear, longboard, BMX, slackline and parkour demonstrations and competitions, in addition to the presence of several world-renowned athletes. What’s more, some 250 cyclists equipped with fixies are expected at the event, in order to establish a Guinness Record for the world’s biggest trackstand.

JACKALOPE has the dual objective of allowing athletes to perform in a different environment and the public to discover alternative sports in an extraordinary urban setting,” underlines Micah Desforges, President of Tribu Expérientiel and Producer of the event.JACKALOPE is therefore an opportunity for athletes and the general public to share a unique experience in a fun-filled, laidback atmosphere packed with big thrills.”

The event will be hosted by Dave Duncan, popular World Cup Skateboarding announcer. With his in-depth knowledge of action sports, he will help guide novices through the event’s multifaceted program.

Skateboarders of all levels will have a chance to test their skills on the second day of the event. Amateurs will first compete against each other and then make way for an invitational competition featuring world-class athletes, notably Greg Lutzka (UNITED STATES – two-time winner of the X-Games and other prestigious titles), Ryo Sejiri (JAPAN – winner of, among other titles, the Real Toughness Tokyo 2012), etc., not to mention our local heroes, JS Lapierre and Antoine Asselin.

Motocross enthusiasts will be treated to demonstrations by world freestyle motocross icon, Ben Milot, on Friday at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Urban biking, specifically on a fixed-gear bike without brakes, will also mark the two days of this edition of JACKALOPE. Cyclists will be able to participate in a race, as well as a footdown competition, in addition to taking on the challenge of establishing a Guinness trackstand record. This initiative of the iBike boutique requires that some 250 cyclists maintain balance on their bikes as long as possible without pedalling.

Then several amateurs and professionals will also take over the site’s urban installations during contests in other disciplines: longboard, parkour, slackline and BMX.

The public will be able to follow a live webcast of JACKALOPE, an initiative amplified by Rogers. In addition, the site will feature DJs, food trucks and the Pabst Brewing, as well as Nintendo game consoles for the amusement of young and old.

JACKALOPE also hopes to inspire festival-goers with a video contest highlighting its action sports, as well as surfing, wakeboarding, water skiing and kayaking. The videos of the 10 finalists will be screened on Friday, July 19 at 9 p.m., followed by the distribution of prizes to the grand winners.

In case of rain, follow the event’s social media, since it may be postponed to Sunday:

The festival takes its name from the jackalope, a mythical animal of North American folklore resembling a jackrabbit with antelope horns and a symbol of self-mockery. Like the festival, it inspires creativity, strength and performance.

JACKALOPE is an initiative of Tribu Expérientiel, presented by AMNESIA, amplified by Rogers, with the participation of Pabst, Octane 7.0 and Rollin. Regarding its public partners, JACKALOPE has the invaluable support of the Esplanade Financière Sun Life at the Olympic Park and the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport. The event also relies on its partners: l’Hôtel Universel, Nixon, Billabong, Fatboy, 33 mag, Action Shot, CISM and Concrete Wave.

Tribu Expérientiel is an agency specializing in youth experiential marketing that brings together companies and 13- to 34-year-olds through on-line strategies and concrete initiatives translating into positive word-of-mouth communication.

Next February, Tribu Expérientiel is back on the Esplanade Financière Sun Life at the Olympic Park with the production BARBEGAZI.
